BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- UN Women, the United Nations' entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women, on Wednesday held a virtual ministerial roundtable meeting on ensuring progress toward gender equality amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Chinese women affairs official Huang Xiaowei delivered a keynote speech at the meeting.
"With effective policies and timely responses, China has managed to curb the spread of the virus and at the same time kept industrial chain stable and smooth," he said. "These efforts have helped ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), especially Cambodia, mitigate the impacts from the virus on our economy." Enditem

China remains one of the top three destinations for 63 percent of respondents in a survey conducted earlier this year by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and global consultancy firm Roland Berger. Enditem
Regarding Washington's restrictions on Chinese technology companies, the experts agreed that the measures will only isolate Americans from progress in different fields, including 5G technology in telecommunications, in which Chinese companies are at the fore.
Wang added that as a result, bilateral ties have become one of the most deeply interwoven relationships in the world with broadest cooperation areas and most extensive common interests. "No one can deny these facts."
The two sides wrapped up their negotiations on the bilateral FTA on July 20.
Wang emphasized that be it companies from Europe or other parts of the world, they are optimistic about China's economic prospect and improving business environment.
"We urge the U.S. side to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of three China-U.S. joint communiques, stop official interactions and contact of all kinds as well as the upgrading of substantive relations with the island, and handle Taiwan-related issues in a prudent and proper manner, so as not to seriously damage China-U.S. cooperation in major areas as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," Zhao added. "We still need to increase testing abilities," Mahdi said. "The testing rate needs to be at least five or ten percent of our 40 million population in order to detect more and more cases."
