Such a blatant act of bullying runs against the World Trade Organization's principles of openness, transparency and non-discrimination and has exposed the hegemonic nature of the world' sole superpower.
"I believe there are sectors in the United States that are very concerned about China's growth and competitiveness in various fields," said the diplomat.
In sharp contrast to the United States' approach, more than 70 countries expressed their support for the legislation at a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council, representing the shared voice of the international community.
Spokesman Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a press briefing after Ecuadorian foreign minister said the country will be surveilling Chinese fishing fleets near the Galapagos Islands and that Ecuador expects to hold bilateral talks with the Chinese side.
This move has undermined the normal growth of China-U.S. relations and the friendship between the two peoples, he noted.
National security legislation is also a common legal practice globally. Western countries including the United States and Britain have passed numerous laws in the field and have a large number of cases derived from judicial practices.
"But what is important is that no one should unilaterally shut the door for dialogue at any time," Wang said. "Difference, misjudgment or confrontation should not be allowed to dominate the bilateral relations."
The long-term vision will ensure the coherence and strength of the policies, thus offering a stable and safe environment for domestic and foreign investors.
Now, the ball is in the U.S.' court. For the interests of both China and the United States, as well as those of the wider world, China is always ready to work with the U.S. side to boost bilateral ties on the basis of coordination, cooperation and stability, and to maintain global peace and prosperity.
U.S. arms sales to Taiwan seriously breach the three China-U.S. joint communiques, especially the August 17 Communique, severely undermine China's sovereignty and security interests, and gravely violate basic norms of international relations, said Wang. "China firmly opposes this."
