China urges U.S. to stop arms sales to Taiwan

Interview: Cultural exchange vital for Fiji, China to enhance mutual understanding, say officials

During his trip to Shanghai, Branstad reportedly said that China's medical supplies to the United States had saved many lives. He also expressed the hope for further exchanges and cooperation with China to jointly overcome the impact of the epidemic.

"Today we are in the 21st century. Why should we allow history to repeat? Why should we repeat what happened in the last century when we are faced with so many new challenges, global challenges? I don't think a new cold war would serve anybody's interests or will give us any solution to the problem," Cui said, responding to a question on the recent speech on China by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the Nixon Library.

"People cannot assume other people are doing all these things just because they are exactly doing the same thing in other countries. This is the problem. Some people are doing all these things in other countries. But now they are blaming other countries doing such things. We never do these," he said.

While commenting on Pompeo's recent accusation about so-called "surveillance" against ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, Wang said the allegation has no factual basis at all. "It is a common international practice to use modern scientific and technological products and big data to improve social governance, and the United States is no exception.

Cui made the remarks when he was invited to attend the 2020 Aspen Security Forum and had an online interview with Nicholas Burns, executive director of the Aspen Strategy Group, and Andrea Mitchell, chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News, on issues related to China-U.S. relations last week.

The United States has recently taken a number of provocative actions in the South China Sea, breaching its longstanding commitment of not taking sides, and blatantly interfering in the territorial disputes, Wang said.

According to Luo, the construction site of the Attarat Oil Shale Power Plant has been complying with the anti-coronavirus requirements of the local government, while it is also equipped with a clinic and a quarantine area to ensure workers' safety.

Those activities are not transparent. Many of the countries involved have no idea what the U.S. military labs are doing. The United States is the one that has conducted the largest number of biological militarization activities overseas, yet none of which is mentioned in the Confidence Building Measures materials submitted by the United States to the BWC, he said.

He said the relevant U.S. actions have severely disrupted Chinese journalists' normal reporting activities, gravely damaged the reputation of the Chinese media and affected the normal people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.
